Recap of the first Two Days
The 2019 National Amateur Retriever Club Championship has not disappointed.
We started with 130 dogs entering the 2019 NARC. We had two scratches (100 and 117) which left us with 128 dogs to start this Super Bowl of Amateur Field Trials.
We had some last minute handler changes, with John Russell, Jr. handling #54 Tubb and Suzanne Caire is sub handling dog #19 Bess. We also have Jamie Woodson handling #22 Hawk on behalf of Scott Leonescu.
Day One - Series One was a Double with One Rooster Flyer and One dead Rooster Retired. This test showed to have its challenges. Early morning the holding blind was nearly invisible which held its challenges for the dogs. As Pat indicated the dog work improved as the day went on and the blind was more visible.
The First Series officially started at 7:42 am with lucky dog #37 - FC-AFC GLENHOMA'S EL CHUPACABRA, "Chupa" LM with handler Richard Davis kicking off this year's event.
During the 12 hours and 10 minutes it took to run 128 dogs (average time 6 minutes per dog), we had 5 Pick Ups, 18 Handles, 6 No-Birds and 7 Re-Runs (1 coming to dog #113 that had a rerun with a vet clearance).
The day ended at 7:52 pm and when it was all done and said there were 13 dogs dropped and 115 called back to run the 2nd Water Blind and 3rd Land Blind on Day Two!
Day Two brought our 2nd and 3rd Water Blind and Land Blind Series. Dog #63 FC MIDNIGHT TRAINS TEXAS RANGER, "Deets" with handler Cade Gentry started today's event at 7:13 am being the first dog out the 115 to run.
We were informed of the Double Headers party at 6:30 pm and that we would have gun changes after every 30 dogs.
It became clear that half way through this combined test the judges were going to have plenty to judge from this series.
We ended the day 11.25 hours later at 6:27 pm (average 6 minutes per dog to complete this series). We had 9 pick ups, and dog #115 was excused.
We will see what the callbacks bring when we get the from our judges. Stay tuned for details on Series 4 that will start tomorrow morning.
